In Cameroon, families of men recruited to fight for Russia in Ukraine are demanding their return. The group "Bring Back Our Sons and Brothers" held a peaceful march to the Russian embassy in Yaoundé on Wednesday. Co-founder Paul Sylvain Yede urged Russia and Cameroon to do everything in their power to dismantle the clandestine recruitment network.
According to a report by the collective All Eyes on Wagner, at least 1,417 Africans have been recruited into the Russian military and more than 300 reported dead. The men were lured to Russia with promises of jobs and then sent to the front. Catherine Djock has not known for nine months whether her husband, who travelled to Russia expecting kitchen work, is alive. The report cites no reaction from either government.
