Capcom has switched off the online features of Street Fighter V on PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) and temporarily pulled the fighting game from sale. According to the publisher, the move relates to security improvements connected to the PHP programming language. VGC reports that researchers disclosed two serious PHP vulnerabilities last week that had been found with the help of AI; several websites and services went offline temporarily as a result.

In a notice on 27 October, Capcom said content requiring online functionality is currently unavailable and that emergency maintenance is underway to fix it. Until the fix is complete, sales on the PlayStation Store and Steam will be suspended in stages. “Offline content remains available and can still be enjoyed,” the company said, apologising for the inconvenience.

It is unclear when the servers will return and the game will be back in stores – Capcom gave no timeline. Street Fighter V was released in 2016; according to Shacknews, older systems running outdated PHP versions are most at risk from the flaws.
