Revival holds the key: Kostadinov waits for final results before run-off stance

With around 12.7 percent, Kostadin Kostadinov is the third force. His party will only take a position after the final results. The governing side says it will not court GERB and DPS.

The leader of the Vazrazhdane (Revival) party, Kostadin Kostadinov, called his result predictable given the low turnout. According to Mediapool, the Kostadinov/Volgin ticket nearly tripled the party's share compared with the 4.26 percent it won in April's parliamentary election. "The result of the second round will to a large extent also depend on Vazrazhdane's voters," Kostadinov said. The party would announce its position "after the final results and if support is sought."

Asen Vasilev, chairman of We Continue the Change (PP), told BNT the result was a clear signal that the government's policies were not good for Bulgaria. Gyurov had not asked his party for support, he said; PP had decided to back him on its own. Petar Vitanov, parliamentary group leader of Progressive Bulgaria, admitted: "Some of us underestimated this election." He ruled out political deals with GERB and DPS ahead of the run-off.

GERB leader Boyko Borissov attributed the low turnout to voters seeing no candidate able to unite the nation, Novinite reported. GERB did not field its own candidate.
