Typhoon Champi, the season's 30th, weakened into an extratropical cyclone early on Monday, South Korean broadcaster SBS reported. Strong wind advisories were nevertheless expanded on the resort island of Jeju. Forty-two high-risk areas, including hiking trails on Mount Hallasan and coastal zones, remain off-limits. Heavy rain is also forecast for Japan, according to SBS.
After the storm passes, a change in the weather is expected in South Korea: temperatures are set to fall from Tuesday afternoon, and SBS expects early winter-like cold by Wednesday morning. The broadcaster's reports did not mention any injuries.
