Freiburg's internationals made their case in front of the national coach: in SC Freiburg's 2-1 (1-1) defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, Derry Scherhant opened the scoring in the 14th minute, set up by Philipp Treu. Jürgen Klopp watched from the stands. He called both up to the national team for the first time in September, along with their teammate Yannik Engelhardt.

Leverkusen still turned the game around: Ibrahim Maza equalised in the 19th minute from a Patrik Schick pass, and Schick scored the winner in the 76th. Treu had already gone off by then, replaced by Lukas Kübler in the 64th minute. In stoppage time Lucas Höler headed narrowly wide.

It was Freiburg's first Bundesliga defeat of the season and cost them top spot. "That really hurts", Freiburg's Niklas Beste told DAZN. On Wednesday Klopp plans to watch Bayern Munich against Arsenal in the Champions League.
