Shortly before its 22 October launch, the first score for Final Fantasy Resonance is in: Japanese magazine Famitsu awards 36 out of 40, with all four reviewers giving 9 out of 10. As Nintendo Everything reports, Famitsu praises the nostalgic homages and the battle system, in which enemies are put into a “break” state and special “Resonance” moves are used. The balance of the combat is surprisingly good. The magazine estimates 20 to 30 hours for the main story and around 70 hours for all content.
The turn-based role-playing game from Square Enix is the first Final Fantasy with HD-2D graphics, which combine pixel art with 3D environments and became known through Octopath Traveler. It is based on the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius but, according to the publisher, has been extensively rebuilt. Cloud, Tidus and the Warrior of Light are among those making guest appearances.
The game launches simultaneously on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and Switch and costs $49.99. A demo is already available for Switch and Switch 2, with save data carrying over to the full game.
