Capcom is bringing a free prologue demo of the Switch 2 version of Monster Hunter Wilds to the eShop. It arrives on 19 October Pacific Time, i.e. 20 October in Europe; digital pre-orders open on the same day. The demo appears to match the trial versions on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, offering full character creation and chapters 1 to 3 up to “To the Forest”. Save data can be carried over to the full game.
The demo has no online multiplayer, but local play works, connecting several Switch 2 consoles nearby directly. Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto told VGC that local play matters to many players in Japan and around the world who are used to hunting together from the PSP and 3DS days.
The full game launches on Switch 2 on 4 December, including as a Game-Key Card, and supports cross-platform play. Capcom has also announced the expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance for 2027.
