Nuremberg kept their unbeaten run in Germany's second division alive on Friday, drawing 1-1 at Energie Cottbus. Coach Miroslav Klose had warned beforehand that his team faced what could be its toughest game.
Cottbus started strongly, with King Manu hitting the post early and Justin Butler narrowly missing. Butler made amends in the 56th minute, finishing after build-up involving Leonardo Bittencourt, and had a second goal ruled out for offside. Nuremberg pushed back, Piet Scobel struck the crossbar and Styopa Mkrtchyan equalised from close range in the 79th minute.
Three more matches kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday: Greuther Fürth host Eintracht Braunschweig, Kaiserslautern face Bochum and Wolfsburg meet Heidenheim. Hannover 96 play St. Pauli in the evening.
