The Witch’s Bakery by studio Sunny Lab has been available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and Switch since 14 October; the publisher is Silver Lining Interactive, and according to LadiesGamers it costs €19.99. It was originally planned for 20 August – Sunny Lab pushed the launch back to fix remaining bugs and avoid the crowded September release schedule. You play the young witch Lunne, who runs a bakery in modern-day Paris with her cat. As a “witch of the heart”, she sees the regret of people who hide their feelings and helps them in heart labyrinths and heart palaces, some with puzzles and enemies.
AltChar awards 9 out of 10 and calls the game one of the highlights of the year, praising the hand-drawn art, the adaptive music, the relaxed baking and the careful handling of real human struggles. LadiesGamers gives the verdict “I Like it a Lot” and compares its treatment of difficult themes to Spiritfarer.
LadiesGamers withholds its top rating because of a bug in the review build that at times stopped the bakery producing goods and slowed progress. AltChar criticises minor points such as the lack of DualSense haptic feedback while baking and the heroine awkwardly standing in view while kneading dough.
