Over the Hill review: a cosy off-road adventure from the Art of Rally team
Funselektor sends players through forests and mountains in 4x4s – solo or in a group of four. Reviews are split: relaxing for some, too slow for others.

Critics' verdict
A laid-back off-road adventure that divides critics: a cosy exploration game for some, too slow and too empty for others.

Funselektor, the studio behind Art of Rally, released the off-road exploration game Over the Hill on PC on 14 October together with Strelka Games; versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 are due in 2027. Players drive alone or with up to three friends through forests, lakesides and mountains, overcome obstacles with planks and winches, photograph wildlife and upgrade their vehicle. According to the developers, the vehicles are modelled on classic four-by-four overlanders of the 1960s to 1980s.
RacingGames.gg awards 8 out of 10 and calls it arguably the best cosy racing game ever, praising the art style, the dynamic weather, useful tools and the balance between arcade and simulation. TechRadar also enjoys the off-road driving, both solo and with friends, as well as the upgrades.
GamesRadar+ is more critical, calling it almost an “anti-driving game” – very slow, laborious and often frustrating, with only the “Trail” routes standing out. TechRadar notes that the barren areas offer little to do and only hold attention for short sessions. RacingGames.gg also regrets that upgrades don’t carry over to other vehicles.
