Sega and Creative Assembly are pulling Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition from sale just two days after its 13 October launch. The new version of the 2011 strategy game was meant to relaunch the classic with updated technology. On Steam it most recently stood at “Overwhelmingly Negative”: according to VGC, only 19 per cent of more than 2,000 reviews recommended the game.

Players complained about performance problems and bugs carried over from the original. On social media, users also accused the studio of using AI to upscale art such as unit cards – unit cards with badly drawn hands circulated as evidence. According to PC Gamer, Sega has not yet responded to these allegations.

Sega said on X that the Complete Edition had fallen short of players’ expectations and its own standards. It is working with platform holders to temporarily remove the game from sale and reinstate the original. Existing owners can keep playing the remaster. When it will return remains open.
