In Alaska, the candidates in a Senate race met for a televised debate on Thursday evening (local time; 5 a.m. Friday in Central Europe). Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan is seeking re-election; his challenger is former Democratic congresswoman Mary Peltola. According to PBS NewsHour, the debate was carried by Alaska Public Media in partnership with Alaska's News Source and KTOO. Another Republican with the same first and last name, Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., was not on stage because he did not receive the required 5 percent of the primary vote.
In July, the Cook Political Report moved the race from Lean Republican to Toss Up. President Donald Trump has already campaigned in Alaska for Sullivan – according to PBS, a sign of how close the race may be. The congressional elections on 3 November will decide control of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
