The country rent index of data platform Numbeo for mid-2026 shows where rents are highest worldwide. Bermuda leads with an index value of 108.2, followed by the Cayman Islands (76.1), Singapore (73.1) and Hong Kong (63.1). The top 10 also include Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, Switzerland (51.5), the Bahamas and Iceland (49.5). The higher the value, the higher the average rent level compared with other countries.

Germany scores 24.6 according to Numbeo, Bulgaria 11.1. Rents in Germany are therefore on average more than twice as high as in Bulgaria. Within Europe, Luxembourg (49.3) and Ireland (43.8) are far ahead, while the US stands at 40.7. The lowest values are in Afghanistan (2.3), Bangladesh (2.6), Nepal (2.9), Pakistan (3.4) and Algeria (3.5).

Numbeo relies on user-submitted data and offers a snapshot, not official statistics. Country averages also hide large differences between cities and regions: in big cities, rents are often well above the national average. For Bulgaria, Eurostat recently reported a 9.9 per cent rise in rents within a year (Q2 2025 to Q2 2026), more than three times the EU average. Anyone planning a move should therefore compare current local listings.
