Seven months after the state election in Baden-Württemberg, the AfD has caught up with the CDU in a new poll. In the BW-Trend by Infratest dimap for SWR, Stuttgarter Zeitung and Südwest Presse, both parties stand at 23 percent. The Greens remain clearly the strongest force at 30 percent, the SPD is at 7 and the Left at 6 percent. The FDP, at 4 percent, would fail to enter the state parliament. A total of 1,191 eligible voters were surveyed from 8 to 13 October.
Compared with the state election on 8 March, the CDU has lost significant ground: it won 29.7 percent at the time, the AfD 18.8 percent. The Greens are almost exactly at their election result of 30.2 percent. According to the poll, the Green-CDU state government would still have a majority of seats.
The trend mirrors the national picture: in the latest INSA poll the AfD stands at 30 percent and the Union at 18.5 percent; Forsa puts the AfD at 26 and the Union at 19 percent. Polls are snapshots and carry a statistical margin of error of roughly one to three percentage points.
