There are suspects in the arson attack on Starlink antennas near Sofia, according to Bulgaria's Interior Ministry. "There are suspects," the ministry's acting secretary general, Lyubomir Nikolov, told reporters on Thursday. He declined to give further details so as not to jeopardise the investigation.
Democratic Bulgaria MP Ivaylo Mirchev made the attack public in a Facebook post on 12 October. According to him, two masked men set fire to 11 of the 17 antennas at a secret facility near Sofia that communicate with SpaceX's Starlink satellite system. Mirchev stressed that the facility is a key link to the satellites, which are also used in the war in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev told parliament on Wednesday that an investigation was under way and that there would be results. Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev, also speaking in parliament, said Interior Ministry units had taken additional security measures at similar sites across the country. Responsibility for these facilities, however, rests with their owners.
