Iran executed Ali-Sina Mostafavi, who was convicted of carrying out armed attacks in the southeastern city of Kerman during the war with the United States and Israel, the judiciary's Mizan news outlet reported, according to Reuters. Mizan accused him of acting in support of exiled opposition figure Reza Pahlavi and Israel. There was no independent confirmation of the charges, and the date and place of the execution were not given.
Iranian activist Masih Alinejad described Mostafavi as a mountaineer. Before the execution, she wrote that he had been moved to solitary confinement and that his family had been called in for a "final goodbye." She said the authorities wanted to hang him "for protesting," a claim that could not be independently verified, and called for international action. The reports gave no details of the trial.
