All voting machines that needed repair ahead of Bulgaria's Oct. 25 presidential election have been fixed, Central Election Commission spokeswoman Stoyanka Balova told BNT on Saturday. She cited about 2,000 machines with more serious problems and nearly 4,000 in total, including those needing preventive maintenance, and said the contractor had assured the commission that the work would be completed on time.

About 3,000 technicians will be available to polling station commissions on election day. The machines have no internet connection, making outside interference with results impossible, Balova said. Each receipt will carry a 30-character hash code, to be generated and published next week; voters can note the first and last four characters to check that the machines run certified software.

Training for regional election commissions ends by the end of next week, after which they will train polling station staff. Balova acknowledged that some Sofia residents still do not know how to vote by machine, and said people had asked for more demonstrations after trial runs in the metro.
