In August 1984 the “Super Rock ’84 in Japan” festival toured Nagoya, Fukuoka, Osaka and Tokorozawa near Tokyo – with Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Michael Schenker Group, Anvil and Scorpions. The Hanover band itself released its set on its official YouTube channel as part of a package marking the 40th anniversary of the album “Love at First Sting”.

On stage was the classic line-up: Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs (guitars), Francis Buchholz (bass) and Herman Rarebell (drums). The tour was all about the album “Love at First Sting”, released in March 1984 – with songs such as “Rock You Like a Hurricane”, “Big City Nights” and the ballad “Still Loving You”.

“Love at First Sting”, produced by Dieter Dierks, gave Scorpions their definitive breakthrough in the US: the album reached the Top 10 of the US album chart, and “Rock You Like a Hurricane” became their biggest single hit there. Japan had been a special place for the band since the live album “Tokyo Tapes” (1978) – the 1984 festival appearance shows them at their best.
