A Russian drone attack on the main railway station in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro killed at least 14 people on Thursday, up from an initial count of 13. Ukrainian Railways said a jet-powered drone hit the platform where passenger train No. 866 was preparing to leave for Zaporizhzhia. Four drones were launched at the area around 11 a.m. local time, and air defences shot down three of them. Footage showed burnt-out carriages and bodies on the platform.
Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Oleksandr Ganzha reported 13 injured, four of them seriously – an 11-year-old boy, a 26-year-old woman and two men aged 40 and 53. Railway chief Oleksandr Pertsovsky said a heightened threat alert had been issued before the attack, but many people were still on the platform. According to a roundup by Hong Kong's The Standard, five more people died in daytime strikes on two other cities.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the attack "horrific" and urged "just and decisive action by America and Europe" against Russian escalation. Sanctions on Moscow must not be eased as long as the war continues, he wrote, calling for new, stronger steps from the EU, the US and the G7. Overnight, 613 Ukrainian drones flew towards the Moscow region, most of which were shot down, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.
