Bayern Munich are hoping Joshua Kimmich will return for Saturday's Bundesliga top-of-the-table clash with Borussia Dortmund (1730 GMT). The 31-year-old missed three games following a death in the family: a Champions League game against Arsenal, a 3-1 win at Freiburg and a 6-1 German Cup victory over Magdeburg.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks said at his news conference before the cup game on Tuesday: "We expect him to return this week." According to a Bild report cited by t-online, Kimmich was back at the Saebener Strasse training ground on Thursday, signing autographs for fans. Whether he plays against Dortmund is due to be decided at Friday's final training session.
Assistant coach Aaron Danks continues to stand in for head coach Vincent Kompany. Sporting director Max Eberl said on Wednesday after the cup win, referring to Kimmich: "Then we'll see what happens on Saturday."
