President Donald Trump’s political groups are pouring huge sums into the Republican campaign in the final weeks before the November 3 congressional elections. His flagship super PAC, MAGA Inc., reported spending nearly $277 million since early September, AP reported. Of that, $200 million went to No Going Back PAC Inc. and $25 million to Safety & Affordability PAC Inc., both of which have spent millions on advertising.
Trump said “over 400 Million Dollars” would be spent by Election Day. “It’s more than any president has ever spent, by far, on the midterms,” said Republican strategist Corry Bliss. According to AP, the late start has driven up ad costs, in some cases to more than five times what earlier spending would have cost.
One focus is Texas, where Trump-aligned groups have spent tens of millions of dollars backing Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton against Democrat James Talarico. Tech billionaire Elon Musk is also investing heavily there; Talarico has accused him of trying to buy the seat. Overall, Republicans hold a large financial advantage this election cycle.
