Bulgaria's health ministry is providing mobile medical units offering 1,435 free preventive examinations and tests. The order was issued by Health Minister Katya Ivkova, BNT reported. The focus is on maternal and child health, early detection of diseases and vaccinations. The target groups are vulnerable communities, including Roma and families in difficult social circumstances.
The plan includes 360 gynaecological examinations in Pazardzhik, Sliven, Targovishte and Sofia Province, and 500 preventive check-ups for children in Kyustendil, Silistra, Burgas and Sliven. There will also be 170 chest X-rays in Sliven and Blagoevgrad, 195 ultrasound scans in Shumen, Stara Zagora and Vratsa, and 210 examinations with lab tests in Stara Zagora, Dobrich and Vidin. In Varna, Pleven, Vidin and Vratsa, general practitioners will offer examinations and vaccinations, including for people up to 18.
The examinations are organised by the regional health inspectorates together with medical facilities. Health mediators inform people locally and direct them to the medical teams. The initiative is part of the 2024–2027 national action plan under the strategy for Roma equality, inclusion and participation.
