Tim Burton is working on a new feature film with Kazuo Ishiguro, as first reported by Deadline and summarised by The A.V. Club and Filmstarts. The 2017 Nobel laureate in literature has written an original story that is not based on any of his books.

According to Deadline's sources, the as-yet-untitled film is set in Japan after World War II; Ishiguro himself has not confirmed this. According to Filmstarts, he described the project as a private idea that he and Burton developed without producers. No studio or distributor is attached, and no cast has been announced.

Ishiguro has written screenplays before, including 'Living' (2022) starring Bill Nighy. Burton recently finished filming the third season of 'Wednesday'; according to The A.V. Club he is also still developing a remake of 'Attack of the 50 Foot Woman' with Margot Robbie.
