Paramount is developing a feature adaptation of 'Red Rising', the first book in Pierce Brown's science fiction series. Francis Lawrence, who directed four 'Hunger Games' films, is attached to direct, according to TheWrap and World of Reel, which cites The Hollywood Reporter.

Justin Rhodes, who worked with Lawrence on an as-yet-unmade 'Bioshock' adaptation, is writing the script. Lawrence and Cameron MacConomy produce for their company about:blank alongside Francesco Goedhuis, with Pierce Brown as executive producer. World of Reel says the book series has sold more than six million copies.

The story follows Darrow, a member of the lowest caste, the 'Reds', in a colour-coded society on Mars. No production start has been set. Lawrence's next film, 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping', opens in German cinemas on Nov. 19 (U.S.: Nov. 20).
