Manchester United's Lisandro Martinez has issued a statement on Instagram following his criticism of the club's hierarchy. He said he spoke out of anger and frustration and put himself at the front of the responsibility but did not apologize, Sky Sports reported. "My words reflect how I feel and how much I want to see this club competing for the biggest honours," the Argentine wrote. "I believe in my team-mates, our manager and everyone working to help this club move forward."
After the 2-0 Champions League loss at Atletico Madrid, the 28-year-old said: "I expect more from our technical director," calling for more signings. According to Sky Sports, United have not yet decided whether to take action, and at least one player confronted him on the flight home. The Telegraph reports that senior players agree with the substance of his criticism, but most believe a sanction for the public comments is appropriate.
Manager Michael Carrick will speak on Friday ahead of Sunday's league game at Leeds United, according to The Independent. Martinez's contract expires next summer.
