A yellow warning for significant rainfall is in force across Bulgaria on Monday, BNT reported. Up to about 40 litres per square metre may fall locally, with heavy showers and thunderstorms expected. Strong north-westerly winds are bringing in cold air. Only on Sunday, Ruse recorded 34 degrees, unusually warm for mid-October. Daytime highs in the new week will be about ten degrees lower than in recent days.

On Monday, highs will reach 13 to 18 degrees in most of the country, 20 to 24 degrees in the east and about 13 degrees in Sofia. Above 2,000 metres the precipitation will turn to snow, and the snow line is falling. On the Black Sea coast it will rain mainly in the south, with the sea at around 20 degrees. On Tuesday and Wednesday intermittent rain will continue, at times heavy in central and eastern Bulgaria. On Wednesday lows will be 5 to 10 degrees and highs 11 to 16 degrees. The rain will stop overnight into Thursday, bringing a temporarily sunnier and warmer spell, but more rain is forecast for many areas on Friday.
