James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has spoken about the search for a new Batman for the DC Universe (DCU). On the official 'The Suicide Squad' podcast he said casting 'isn't very far away' – adding: 'We haven't cast yet, by the way.' The DCU's Batman is a separate character from Robert Pattinson's Batman in Matt Reeves' film series.

It does not have to be a movie star, Gunn said: Superman actors have always been chosen based on who was the best actor for the role, whereas Batman actors have often been stars. Batman and Superman are 'around the same age'; Superman actor David Corenswet is 33.

The planned DCU Batman film 'The Brave and the Bold' was announced back in January 2023, but little has been heard about it since. Next up is the Superman sequel 'Man of Tomorrow', due in US cinemas on July 9, 2027.
