Netflix is developing a live-action series based on the video game 'PUBG: Battlegrounds', which popularised the battle royale genre. Donald Glover ('Atlanta') is set to write, direct, executive produce and star. His brother Stephen Glover, who co-wrote 'Atlanta', joins as writer and executive producer. Netflix and South Korean games company Krafton announced the project on 29 October, as reported by Deadline among others.
Further executive producers are Michael Schaefer for NEON TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H, Krafton's entertainment arm, which is developing the game for film and television.
The project is at an early stage: no plot, further casting or release date have been announced. Separately, Krafton had already announced an animated 'PUBG' series with producer Adi Shankar in 2021.
