Stuttgart-based fashion and lifestyle retailer Breuninger has launched its online shop in eleven more European countries: Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ireland, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Portugal and Greece. Customers there get an English-language version of the shop, with a range based on that of its existing European markets. At the start of the year Breuninger was online in ten countries; Denmark, Sweden and Romania followed in the spring. According to TextilWirtschaft and Retail-News, it now serves 24 markets.
“Mit dem gleichzeitigen Start in elf weiteren europäischen Ländern setzen wir einen großen und wichtigen Schritt” (“With the simultaneous launch in eleven more European countries, we are taking a big and important step”), said chief executive Holger Blecker. The company sees online business as a central driver of growth. Orders are shipped from its existing logistics centre in Sachsenheim near Stuttgart and delivered by DHL. According to TextilWirtschaft, Breuninger gave no specific sales targets for the new markets.
Founded in 1881 by Eduard Breuninger, the company runs 13 department stores in Germany and Luxembourg and employs around 6,500 people; its online shop has existed since 2008. Its “Beyond” loyalty programme has more than two million members in six countries, the company says. According to Retail-News, the planned sale of Breuninger appears to have failed for now.
