Apple on Wednesday unveiled its first touchscreen MacBook Pro at its “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles. Called the “MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display,” it uses a touch-enabled tandem OLED panel. The notch at the top of the display is gone, replaced by an iPhone-style Dynamic Island.
The laptop comes in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes with M5 Pro or M5 Max chips and up to 128GB of memory. Apple says the displays reach up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness and battery life runs up to 24 hours. According to Mac Life, the 14-inch model weighs about 1.36 kilograms, lighter than its predecessor.
U.S. prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch version. In Germany, the 14-inch model starts at 3,299 euros and the 16-inch at 3,899 euros. Pre-orders are open, with deliveries beginning Nov. 6. On Tuesday, Apple had already introduced a cheaper MacBook Pro and an iMac powered by its new M6 chip.
