A previously unseen David Bowie concert film is going on an arena tour in 2027. 'Stage' is built on 35mm footage of Bowie's 1978 concert at London's Earls Court Arena, on the tour for the album 'Heroes'. According to NME, director Brett Morgen ('Moonage Daydream') found the material around ten years ago while working on his Bowie film. The Bowie estate and production company Wonderworld are also behind the project.
The footage is combined with a new light show by Patrick Woodroffe, an immersive audio mix by Paul Massey and transparent LED screens; Musikexpress says the aim is to blur the line between concert film and live performance. The premiere is on 14 February 2027 at Berlin's Uber Arena as part of the 77th Berlinale. Further European cities follow in May, including in Germany, Austria and France, with the UK in June and July, including a show at Earls Court. Individual cities and dates have not yet been announced.
Tickets go on sale on Friday, 30 October, at 10am CET via Eventim, according to NME. Bowie would have turned 80 on 8 January 2027; 'Stage' is part of the 'Bowie80' anniversary programme. Rob Hallett, former president of international at AEG Live, who joined the project in 2024, said Bowie 'has bestowed upon us an extraordinary treasure'.
