The outer bands of Storm Manja are expected to be felt in Berlin on Sunday. After a lull in the morning, the wind is set to veer southwest to west from midday and strengthen again. Forecasters expect gusts of up to 70 km/h in many parts of Berlin, Hanover and Frankfurt, and up to 85 km/h in isolated spots.

Showers and, in the north and parts of central Germany, isolated hail-laden thunderstorms could briefly intensify the wind. The rain is forecast to move off to the east and southeast in the evening. Winds inland should ease overnight into Monday, with forecasters expecting a clear improvement on Monday.

Authorities advise people to avoid forests, parks and tree-lined avenues during storms. On Friday, Storm Luise had already caused damage in several German states and disrupted rail services.
