A man died in a fire in a basement apartment in Berlin's northern Reinickendorf district on Saturday evening. Thirty firefighters with 10 vehicles quickly put out the blaze and then found the tenant unresponsive; an emergency doctor could only confirm his death. Other residents of the building were not hurt.
Police said there was currently no indication of third-party involvement. Criminal investigators from the northern police division are looking into the death, while a fire investigation unit of the state criminal police office is examining the cause.
An electrical emergency crew cut power to the flat and checked the wiring. The street was partly closed for about an hour and a half, which also affected a bus line.
