Bulgaria switches to standard time overnight into Sunday, the day of its presidential election. Clocks go back from 4 a.m. to 3 a.m. local time, according to the Bulgarian Institute of Metrology, at the same moment as in Germany, where clocks move from 3 a.m. to 2 a.m. Smartphones and computers usually adjust automatically, while wall clocks, watches and car clocks have to be reset by hand.
Polling stations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and people still in line may vote until 9 p.m. at the latest. Focus news agency noted that voters relying on clocks that have not been reset would arrive an hour early. If no candidate pair wins outright in the first round, a runoff will be held on Nov. 1. Official first-round results are expected on Tuesday, Blitz.bg reported.
Public broadcaster BNT will begin special coverage at 6:55 a.m. with more than 40 reporting teams and correspondents in countries including Turkey, France, Britain and the United States. On election night, BNT plans to air projections from pollsters Alpha Research and Myara. Campaigning and the publication of opinion polls are banned until polls close.
