Goodbye ponytail: Ariana Grande debuts a shoulder-length retro bob

For years the high ponytail was her signature. Now hairstylist Brandon Pietsch has given the singer a bob with side-swept bangs and flipped-out ends.

Ariana Grande has set aside her signature high ponytail for now. On 22 October the 33-year-old shared several selfies on Instagram showing a shoulder-length bob with side-swept bangs and flipped-out ends. Her only caption was a heart. The cut and the soft chestnut-brown colour are the work of her hairstylist Brandon Pietsch, who wrote: "The ponytail is taking a hiatus." In his Instagram Stories he said Grande was now "in her bob era".

The singer paired the new look with a blush-pink ribbon tied around her neck, a white lace top, extra-long lashes and a French manicure. Fans quickly dubbed the style "Bobiana" on social media. Before the change Grande had worn honey-blonde streaks. At her last red-carpet appearance, the Golden Globes in January 2026, she still wore the high ponytail, according to InStyle, with a black Vivienne Westwood gown styled by Law Roach.

The ponytail has accompanied Grande for many years. As early as 2018 she told The Fader about her hairstyle: "Old pony? I don't know if she's that girl." With the bob she follows a cut recently worn by other musicians too; Time News cites Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Grande will next be seen in cinemas: the comedy "Focker-in-Law", a sequel to "Little Fockers", is due on 25 November.
