Joachim Trier's 'Sentimental Value' (original title 'Affeksjonsverdi') has won the 2026 Nordic Council Film Prize. The award is worth DKK 300,000 and is shared equally between director and co-writer Trier, co-writer Eskil Vogt and producers Maria Ekerhovd and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar.
The jury described the film as 'an instant classic of Nordic cinema' in which Trier has created his most mature work to date. It praised the blend of a satirical look at filmmaking with a subtle portrait of complicated family relationships. Other nominees included Hlynur Pálmason's 'The Love That Remains' from Iceland and 'Begynnelser' from Denmark.
According to Norwegian magazine Cinema, all five Nordic Council prizes have gone to a single country – Norway – for the first time this year. They will be presented on 27 October, with the ceremony streamed on norden.org.
