After Spain, the low-pressure system Adam has hit southern France with torrential rain and flooding. In the Bouches-du-Rhône department, a 75-year-old who had been swept away by floodwaters was found dead on Tuesday near Istres, about 50 kilometres west of Marseille. A helicopter had been deployed in the search. Residents in Istres were evacuated and moved to a sports hall. In Corsica, the Fium'orbu river near Ghisonaccia carried away a 4x4 with two people inside; one escaped through a window, and rescuers are searching for the other.
North of Solenzara in Corsica, almost 400 millimetres of rain have fallen since the storm began, and Météo-France recorded 191 millimetres in a single hour at the local airport. In Lunel in the Hérault department streets were flooded, and around 15 people were taken in at a reception centre. Near Nîmes the A9 motorway was closed for several hours, while in Marseille motorway sections were partly flooded and tram services were suspended on Tuesday morning. The rain eased around midday, though train services remained disrupted. In Spain, Adam has killed at least four people.
