A cyclist has been attacked and injured in Berlin's Mitte district after a traffic dispute. Police said on Wednesday that shortly after 1 p.m. on Tuesday the driver of a van changed lanes on Alexanderstrasse towards Karl-Marx-Allee and endangered a 22-year-old cyclist.

When the cyclist told the driver to be more careful, the driver and his passenger allegedly insulted him. According to police, the two men then stopped, got out and attacked the 22-year-old, with the driver allegedly striking him with a metal bar. Bystanders intervened, after which the suspects fled in the van.

The cyclist suffered injuries to one arm and his right hand and declined medical treatment at the scene. He filed a criminal complaint. A specialist unit of Police Directorate 5 is investigating on suspicion of dangerous bodily harm.
