Three children were killed in Sudan's capital Khartoum on Monday when a drone crashed into their home in the Imtidad Nasser neighbourhood east of the airport. Medical sources and eyewitnesses said the children were aged between two and six; their mother was critically injured and admitted to intensive care. A security source said the army shot down two drones of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over the Burri and Nasser neighbourhoods that morning. The government had not commented.
Khartoum airport reopened only in February 2026 after being closed since the war began in April 2023. The army and the RSF are increasingly using combat drones: in recent days, according to Sudan Tribune, the army struck RSF positions in Nyala and West Kordofan, while RSF drones hit facilities in Gedaref and Kassala states.
Meanwhile, the Security and Defence Council met in Khartoum under army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. The council mourned civilians killed by drones and directed authorities to act against “plots” targeting the country. It also discussed the collapse of the national currency, fuel shortages and rising living costs.
