Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany missed training and the pre-match news conference on Tuesday, the eve of the club's Champions League game against Arsenal, as he recovers from a viral infection, the club said. Assistant coach Aaron Danks was named to take the news conference. Danks and René Marić had already led the team from the touchline in the 6-1 win over RB Leipzig.

Sporting director Max Eberl had already said on Saturday, according to Sky, that Bayern fully expect Kompany to be available on Wednesday. Eberl said the Belgian had also had a hip problem on top of the infection. His presence on the bench has not yet been officially confirmed. Kick-off at the Allianz Arena is at 9 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Captain Manuel Neuer returned to training after a foot problem and is expected to start in goal, the dpa news agency reported. Joshua Kimmich missed the session for personal reasons but should play, while Michael Olise is suspended after his red card in Stavanger.
