Companies have pledged more than 225 billion euros in investments in connection with the German government's investment summit in Berlin, Economy Minister Katherina Reiche said on Tuesday. Only projects worth more than 100 million euros each were counted, she told Deutschlandfunk radio. It was unclear how many of the projects are new or would have gone ahead without the summit.
Amazon plans to invest about 16 billion euros in Germany next year, mainly in data centres for its AWS cloud unit and in logistics sites, dpa reported. "But I think the view we have of our country can sometimes be a bit more optimistic," Reiche said, while calling for reforms to social security costs, the labour market, dismissal protection, working lives, bureaucracy and energy prices.
"I want your money," Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil told the roughly 200 executives. According to Allianz Research, total investment in Germany fell 6.4% from 2019 to 2025, while it rose 6.7% in the rest of the euro zone. The DIHK chambers of commerce say private investment in the first half of 2026 was still about 11% below pre-pandemic levels.
