Mitsubishi began selling the new Pajero in Thailand on Oct. 19. Thailand is the first market; Australia and Japan follow from mid-December, and the Middle East and Latin America from fiscal 2027. In total, Mitsubishi plans to offer the off-roader, called Montero in some countries, in around 100 countries and regions. It is built at the Laem Chabang plant in Thailand. Pajero production in Japan ended in 2021 after 39 years. Europe is not mentioned in the announcements.
For Thailand, Mitsubishi lists a 2.4-liter diesel engine with 204 hp and 480 Nm, an eight-speed automatic transmission and Super Select 4WD-II four-wheel drive with seven drive modes. The seven-seater starts at 1,499,000 baht there. “The all-new Pajero is a flagship model that embodies Mitsubishi Motors,” Mitsubishi President Keisuke Kishiura said.
Mitsubishi positions the Pajero as its new flagship, combining off-road capability with passenger-car comfort. The manufacturer's video shows the world premiere.
