Bayer Leverkusen face Lech Poznan on Thursday evening (6:45 p.m. CEST) in the second round of the Europa League league phase. Coach Carles Martinez's team opened with a 2-0 win over Celje, while Polish champion Lech lost 4-0 at Crystal Palace. According to bundesliga.com, Leverkusen are without Ben Seghir, Culbreath, Doue, Eichhorn and Kofane, among others. Victor Boniface is not on the UEFA squad list for the league phase.
The striker walked off to the dressing room in the 84th minute of the 4-3 win at Mainz on Oct. 10 after not being brought on. Sporting director Simon Rolfes said: "No, that's not acceptable, but he knows that too." He added: "That was once, and it's done now."
On Sunday (3:30 p.m. CEST), fourth-placed Leverkusen host leaders SC Freiburg, who have 13 points, their best-ever start. Leverkusen have yet to concede a Bundesliga goal at home this season, and Patrik Schick leads the scoring chart with five goals.
