Swedish designer Gustaf Westman has created a collection with Disney based on Mickey Mouse and friends. On 12 October he showed the first three pieces: a black leather sofa with a sculptural, Mickey-like silhouette for €9,250, a black ceramic cup with mouse ears and saucer for €68, and the “Mickey Tumbler” for €110 – a version of his “Chunky Tumbler” – whose base recalls Mickey's red shorts with white buttons.
“Collaborating with Disney felt like a very natural creative match from the start,” Westman told Dezeen. Speaking to Wallpaper*, he said there are very few characters that people recognise in a second wherever they are in the world: “For me, that is the highest level of design.” He called the tumbler his favourite piece.
In total the collection is to comprise 35 pieces, from apparel and accessories to homeware and made-to-order collectible furniture. It launches with a pop-up in Paris from 30 October to 1 November, followed by Tokyo (6 to 8 November) and New York (13 to 15 November). It goes on sale online on 15 November.
