SC Freiburg took over top spot in the Bundesliga on Sunday with a 2-1 (1-1) win over promoted FC Schalke 04, moving past Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Maximilian Eggestein scored in the 10th minute after Matthias Ginter headed on a corner from Derry Scherhant. Adrian Gantenbein equalised for Schalke in the 30th minute.

After Yuito Suzuki was sent off for a second yellow card (64'), Freiburg played around half an hour with ten men. Substitute Keisuke Goto headed in the winner from a Vincenzo Grifo cross in the 85th minute, his first Bundesliga goal. It was Freiburg's seventh win in eight competitive games this season.

Scherhant made his senior Germany debut under head coach Jürgen Klopp during the international break, as did his Freiburg team-mates Philipp Treu, Yannik Engelhardt and Max Rosenfelder. The video highlights come from the YouTube channel “sportstudio fußball” (ZDF).
