Premier League leaders Manchester City host Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup on Wednesday after a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa. Manager Enzo Maresca confirmed goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli would play, saying on Tuesday: "When he has played, he was good and tomorrow he will play again." He said defender Marc Guehi, substituted at half-time at Villa, was "completely okay" physically.

Erling Haaland, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Elliot Anderson were given three days off after the defeat, and their involvement in the cup tie is unclear. Antoine Semenyo is out with a knee injury and Matheus Nunes remains sidelined. City top the table on 21 points, with Brighton third on 16.

Brighton have Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer back in contention. Kaoru Mitoma and Stefanos Tzimas are out, while Ferdi Kadioglu and Chema Andres came off injured against Liverpool. The sides meet again in the Premier League on Saturday.
