Evloev after first defeat: Volkanovski is 'like good wine'

The Russian lost for the first time as a pro at UFC 333 and took it graciously. On X he wrote: "Today wasn't my day." No rematch has been booked.

Movsar Evloev paid tribute to his conqueror after the first defeat of his professional career. "He's like good wine. Older, stronger, better. He's truly a legend," he said of featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, according to Athlon Sports, citing MMA Junkie. He said he had not proven he was the best – "maybe we'll try again".

The day after UFC 333, Evloev also posted on X: today wasn't his day, and he accepts what Allah has planned for him. Volkanovski was the better man on the day. He also thanked the UFC for the title opportunity and his fans for their support, Sports Illustrated reports.

Evloev entered his first UFC title fight at 20-0 and now stands at 20-1. Volkanovski stopped him by TKO at 4:54 of the second round. No rematch has been booked so far.
