Wall Street: futures edge up, oil eases ahead of a week of Fed and big tech results
US stock futures point slightly higher before the new week, and Brent crude is down more than 1%. Verizon reports today; the Fed decision and Alphabet and Microsoft results follow on Wednesday.

After Friday's losses, New York looks set for a calm start to the week. The futures contract on the S&P 500 was up 0.13% at 7,669 points at 00:40 CET on Monday, while Dow Jones and Nasdaq 100 futures were each about 0.1% higher (Investing.com). On Friday the Dow (−1.23% to 52,215.16), the S&P 500 (−0.52% to 7,623.68) and the Nasdaq Composite (−0.21% to 25,955.34) all fell.
Oil got cheaper after last week's sharp rise: Brent cost $115.19 a barrel early on Monday (−1.3%) and US crude WTI $101.57 (−1.7%) (AFP). On Sunday President Trump said there would be no strike on Iran "today", Stocktwits reported; on Fox News he said he had to decide whether to "finish it off" or make a deal (AFP). Asian markets were mostly a little lower: Nikkei −0.26%, Kospi −1.1%, while the Hang Seng rose 0.59% (finanzen.net, AP).
Telecom group Verizon reports results today at 12:00 CET. Its shares have been under pressure since Bloomberg reported that SpaceX held talks with cell tower owner Crown Castle; SpaceX wants to build its own US mobile network, "Starlink Mobile" (Forbes). In Brazil, President Lula won Sunday's runoff with 51.78% against Flávio Bolsonaro (Rio Times).
The week's big events: the Fed (US central bank) rate decision on Wednesday at 19:00 CET, then results from Alphabet and Microsoft; on Thursday Amazon, US growth (GDP) and the PCE price index, which AP says is expected to show 3.7% annual inflation for September.
