Greta Van Fleet – 'Palace For The People' review: back to rock basics, playing it safe
After the lavish 'Starcatcher', Greta Van Fleet opt for simpler songs. Critics hear a band sticking to what works and miss a sense of ambition.

The Michigan band's fourth album came out on 9 October. It was recorded in spring 2026 at their own studio in Tennessee and co-produced by the band and Mike Elizondo. It was preceded by 'Play Your Games' – whose video was made by the Moonbase team – and 'Saw You Stand'.
Dave Everley of Louder/Classic Rock hears a band that has found its groove and is sticking to it. He highlights the Middle Eastern scales that lend 'Lost In The Golden' an otherworldly vibe, and 'Tough Again', which recalls several Led Zeppelin classics at once. Josh Kiszka's 'rafter-rattling screech' defines the sound, though on 'Play Your Game' producer Elizondo might have told him to rein it in. His verdict: it is difficult not to want more ambition from a band who clearly could deliver something spectacular.
Andrew Korpan of ClutchPoints reaches a similar conclusion: the album 'plays it safe' but is 'so much better' than its predecessor 'Starcatcher'. Greta Van Fleet, he writes, are at their best when arrangements and lyrics stay simple.
