Liverpool beat third-placed Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday. Pascal Gross deflected a Florian Wirtz shot into his own net in the 17th minute, and Alexander Isak doubled the lead moments later from Bradley Barcola's cutback.
Brighton's Yasin Ayari hit the post in the 36th minute, but the visitors posed little threat after the break. It was Brighton's second defeat of the season and their first since August, Sky Sports said. Liverpool moved up to fourth with 15 points, one behind Brighton.
